Overview of SPG Membrane Emulsification

SPG membrane emulsification is the method of making uniform particles in the slow-flowing, continuous-phase liquid by passing disperse-phase liquid through SPG membrane at constant pressure.
This is known as the DM method (Direct Membrane Emulsification Method), which enables making particles bigger than the membrane’s pore size by 3~4 times.

< Features of SPG membrane emulsification >

By enabling porous SPG membrane emulsification with uniform pore diameter, emulsion with proportionate size to the diameter can be made. Results may vary depending on the disperse phase and properties of continuous phase (such as viscosity); the SPG DM method is based on Dp = 3~4 x Dm with Dm as SPG pore size and Dp as average particle diameter when making monodispersing W/O emulsion or O/W emulsion.
This allows flexible control to get the desired particle diameter of emulsion.

W/O/W emulsion

W/O/W emulsion means a double emulsion in which oil (O) droplets enclosing water (W) droplets are dispersing in water (W), also called water-in-oil-in-water emulsion. SPG membrane emulsification produces W/O/W emulsion of uniform droplet size and realizing high enclosing rate.

Features
  • Capable of existing in aqueous solution in the form of a capsule
  • Capable of enclosing aqueous solution
  • Capable of capsuling aqueous solution of almost all the substances
  • Capable of using liquid-type base material for capsule
  • Capable of release control
  • Capable of producing micro particle of about 1 diameter
  • Capable of corresponding to O/W emulsion without difficulty
Applications

W/O/W emulsion can be applied to drugs, chemicals and foods as a capsule; especially most suited to drugs because uniform microcapsule can be produced by SPG membrane emulsification. Our company is engaged in the research & development, trial production on contract, production and sale of W/O/W emulsion-applied products.
